I tried porting from one network to another as data service though was great at home, was poor in the office. So i thought maybe i try the network which had
a faster speed in my office area. At the end of the day, was it worth it? maybe no and yes as the data service at home for the old network was faster than the new one. But you cant have it all......at least I can browse faster in the office now.
You may not need to port as they both have their strengths depending on the throughput data speed in that area. For example, I found out that MTN was fast in some areas of Maitama while Etisalat was really Slow. Also Glo was fast in some areas of Abuja like Lifecamp, Maitama (Danube area), Area 11 and others not checked yet. When Glo want to be fast, they could really give you speed for huge downloads in no time. My Little Experiment on Porting came up with this result below porting from Glo to Etisalat network.
This result is just a one off test and cannot be used to determine the network Quality of Service (QoS) or gateway interconnectivity of any network
EXP A:
Calls from MTN line to Glo number on Etisalat (first trials just after successful porting)
Trials 1: 2 out of 10 calls successful
Trials 2: 5 out of 10 calls successful
Trials 3: 4 out of 10 calls successful
EXP B:
Call from Etisalat line to Glo number on Etisalat network (first trials just after successful porting)
Trials 4: 9 out of 10 calls successful
Trials 5: 5 out of 10 calls successful
Trials 6: 8 out of 10 calls successful
Conclusion:
Exp A: MTN (Mo) route through Glo gateway to Etisalat (MT) needs tweaking. MTN interconnection route on Glo gateway should be optimised. Glo-Etisalat gateway route can be confirmed ok from other result B and optimised if neccessary.
EXP B: Etisalat (MO) route through Glo gateway to Etisalat (MT) is okay. Interconnection between Etisalat and Glo seems good and can be improved. This test is just a one off test conducted in Maitama, Danube area and performed between 11am and 12pm on Tuesday 4th of june. Next time, we'll try and port Etisalat to Glo and see results. If you have some spare time, conduct same with different networks in your area and let us have results of your port.
Noticeable however, is that using a ported sim as hotspot can be really slow due to gateway 504 issues as against a non ported one.
Lets keep talking!
