Comfort plays a significant part when shopping for your next car. With even affordable cars offering features such as heated and ventilated seats, soft leather, zero-gravity seats, comfort is no longer a secondary factor. But which offer the most comfort?
We’ve gathered a list of what we think are the top 15 most-comfortable cars on the market, ranging from your commuter car to that luxury sedan you may be eyeing. There’s a car for everyone on this list. Let's find one that's right for you...
AUDI A6
First up on our list of the most comfortable cars is the Audi A6. This German gem combines style and comfort in one cohesive package. And though the base model has many creature comforts, we’d recommend going with the midrange Premium Plus model. The heated leather seats are among the most comfortable on our list, but they aren’t the only reason we chose the A6. The drive is smooth and comfortable, and the suspension has been tuned so that even at low speeds the car doesn’t feel stiff. The quiet interior makes you feel as if you’re in your own world, with only minimal road noise and engine noise when at highway speeds.
BUICK LACROSSE
Buick has had a reputation for being outdated and “old,” but with the new LaCrosse, that reputation is being stripped away. With a more modern design and upscale interior materials, the Buick LaCrosse stands as a great alternative to more expensive luxury models. It offers a quiet and roomy interior, with front seats that are heavily padded. Even through all that foam, the seats provide plenty of lower back support during longer drives. The suspension itself is rather cushy, making drivers feel as if they’re driving on a cloud, with road imperfections barely noticeable. Throw in some interior sound deadening, and the new Buick LaCrosse easily makes the list.
BUICK REGAL
Just like the LaCrosse, the Buick Regal is part of a mission to change the brand’s image, bringing it out of your grandma and grandpa’s era and into modern times. The cushy, supportive front leather seats with optional heating and an interior surrounded by soft-touch materials help envelop the driver and passengers in comfort. Hop behind the wheel of the Regal GS, and the front sport seats conform to your body and lend lumbar support. Tack on some active and passive safety features, and not only is your back comfortable, but your mind can take a break, knowing that your safety is also a priority.
CHEVROLET IMPALA 2LTZ
For around $36,000, the top-of-the-line 2LTZ model comes fully loaded with everything you’d need. Leather-appointed seats, heated front seats, eight-way power front seats, active safety features such as forward collision alert, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, and more make it ideal for the daily commute and longer drives. The Impala also offers all the connectivity features one would want, further adding to the sense of comfort and refinement.
CHRYSLER 300
When you’re looking into buying a luxury vehicle, Chrysler isn’t always the first brand to come to mind. But the new Chrysler 300 should definitely be on your consideration list. The American automaker has created an interior to rival many, with soft-leather interior touches, standard leather seats, and ambient lighting to provide a level of comfort we don’t usually see from Detroit. Chrysler has also made the 300 user-friendly, with the standard 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system. On top of that, the new 300 comes standard with active-safety features for extra peace of mind. Turn on the standard seat heaters, find that perfect position, and let those soft, supple seats take your mind off the stresses of the day.
FORD FUSION
The Ford Fusion has been a study in design for the automaker and is one of the first in the lineup to receive Ford’s new signature design elements. But its looks aren’t the only thing that received TLC. Step up to the Titanium model, and you won’t be disappointed with the comfortable interior. It offers sport-stitched, leather-trimmed, heated front seats, driver seat memory, power lumbar, as well as a power-adjustable front passenger seat. And with available active-safety systems and “green,” environmentally conscious seats, the automaker wants to make sure that you can relax enough to fully enjoy all the creature comforts this model has to offer.
HONDA ACCORD
For the 2014 model year, Honda decided to up the ante in the midsize sedan segment. Besides making the Accord more modern, the automaker added features to make it more comfortable and heat up its rivalry with the Toyota Camry. The seats are plenty comfortable with standard heated, leather seats on the higher trim models. As always when it comes to the Accord, safety plays a big role. Most of the models in the Accord lineup offer standard safety features such as Honda’s LaneWatch, forward collision alert, lane departure warning, brake assist, and more. This automaker has built its reputation around reliability and safety, and if that alone is not enough comfort, the interior can also help to soothe some tension.
LEXUS ES (350)
Hardly any entry-level models can boast superior features, but the Lexus ES is one of the most comfortable models on the road today. While the IS might be the true entry-level model in the Lexus lineup, its sporty nature makes it seem as if it belongs further up the line. The ES 350 feels more like the entry model because, aside from badging and a few key features, there’s not much there differentiating it from a similarly equipped Toyota Camry or Avalon. But thanks to its great starting price, adding some options won’t break the bank and can yield some great features. NuLuxe seating materials, supple seating surfaces, heated and ventilated seats, and class-leading leg and headroom are just some of the features that make this model one of the most comfortable whether you’re sitting in the front or back.
LEXUS LS
Say you’re one of the lucky ones who need to be chauffeured by a driver. The Lexus LS is a great alternative to its German competitors. We’d suggest going for the 460L, the extended-wheelbase model, as it provides ample legroom, letting taller passengers stretch out if needed. Plush leather seats, selectable driving modes, executive-class seating, and more make the Lexus LS one of the most comfortable cars on the road. Climate Concierge, a Mark Levinson surround-sound system, and available rear entertainment are just some of the goodies available on this model. Granted, it will cost you upwards of $80,000, but if you want the ultimate in comfort, that price seems reasonable for what you’re offered.
MERCEDES-BENZ E-CLASS
With a smooth suspension and standard features such as leather seats and sound insulation, who wouldn’t fork out a little extra cash for this standard-bearer of luxury? Mercedes-Benz offers some of the most comfortable luxury cars around, including the E-Class. Get behind the wheel of the Mercedes-Benz E350 and you’ll find soft-touch materials, leather seats, a heated leather/wood steering wheel, power-adjustable seats with memory, an easy-to-use infotainment system, and a quiet cabin, just to start the list.
MERCEDES-BENZ GL-CLASS (GL350)
The GL-Class is one of the most comfortable SUVs out on the road, with hardly any rivals in that aspect. With three models to choose from, we’d suggest the GL350 as it offers value for your money without leaving you wanting in terms of options. This SUV comfortably seats up to seven people. While most third rows are squished and suitable only for young children, the GL350 serves up ample legroom, making it comfortable for adults. The plush and quiet interior will draw the eye, and the seats will encompass you in supple leather and lend premium support on long drives. Just as with the E350, we’d recommend paying for the Premium package to get all the creature comforts.
NISSAN ALTIMA
Nissan recently redesigned or refreshed much of its lineup, including the Altima. To make it more competitive in the midsize sedan segment, Nissan decided to follow the route of comfort. As a result, we now have what the automaker likes to call “zero-gravity-inspired” front seats. Nissan applied NASA research to its vehicles, creating some of the most comfortable front seats you will find in a sedan. That alone is enough for this car to make our list -- the seats are way more comfortable and supportive than the commercials suggest. Added to that, Nissan crafted a much more upscale interior featuring premium materials that set it apart from the competition.
TOYOTA AVALON
The Toyota Avalon is the sister to the Lexus ES, featuring the same frame with only minor changes. Because of the price difference, however, some might opt for the ES. But we’d recommend sticking with the Toyota if you want to have more standard features. With standard leather-trimmed seats and soft-touch materials surrounding the cabin, the Avalon gives the sense that you are in a much more expensive car. Not only is it quiet, but it offers cavernous interior space, letting passengers stretch out to their hearts’ desire. This is no longer the "grandma car" it may have been in the past.
VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT
Like many in the midsize sedan segment, the Volkswagen Passat benefited from a recent makeover that raised refinement on both the exterior and interior. Comfort undoubtedly played a large factor, as the Passat now offers best-in-class legroom. The seats are supportive, and when opting for the V-6, you’ll get the soft leather-trimmed seats with Dinamica inserts, power-adjustable seats with lumbar support, and driver-seat memory. Along with a host of available options, the Volkswagen Passat is also a 2014 IIHS Top Safety Pick, letting you know that it’s not only one of the most comfortable cars to ride in but also one of the safest.
VOLVO S60
The Volvo S60 is one of those models that has some of the softest front seats in the industry. Thanks to supple leather, heated seats, and a host of amenities, the S60 is not only a great commuter car, but it’s perfect for road trips. However, this car is mainly about the driver, as rear passengers might feel a little cramped with the sloping roof. In addition to creature comforts such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel, attractive infotainment system, lumbar support, and driver memory settings, the safety features packed on this model provide peace of mind. Adaptive cruise control, collision warning systems, automatic braking, lane-keeping assist, and more help drivers find inner relaxation, making the ride that much more comfortable.
thanks for mentioning every brand's most comfortable cars. This will help the buyer who is willing to buy comfortable used cars.
