The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a man with bullet wounds who claimed to have been attacked by armed robbers on 1 October.
The spokesperson of the command, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, said in a statement in Enugu on Friday that the suspect, Chigozie Owoh, was arrested at the Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka, while receiving treatment on the wounds.
The statement said the police was not satisfied with the suspect’s claim and searched the Fiat bus with registration number KRD 324 XD which he drove to the hospital.
According to the statement, the police discovered two locally made pistols and a cartridge while two holes suspected to be bullet holes were on the back door and the driver’s seat.
The statement said the discovery showed that the suspect and his gang were the armed robbers who snatched a space wagon and the Fiat bus from Pastor Marcillinus Ezema and Stephen Hart.
It said the robbery took place on 1 October at Ohodo in Igboetiti Local Government Area of the state.
The victims, the statement said, identified the suspect and the fiat bus which was allegedly taken away from Hart by the suspect.
The police, however, appealed to the general public and hospitals to report cases of people with bullet wounds for necessary action.
