Police arrest pastor for allegedly raping woman inside church

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old pastor, Segun Alawode of Eternal Sacred Order Cherubim and Seraphim Church Sabo, Odogbolu, in Odogbolu Local Government Area of the state for allegedly raping a 32-year-old lady inside the church.

The victim, whose identity the police did not disclose, alleged that the pastor was in a prayer session with her when he asked her to hold on to some candle sticks and suddenly forcefully pulled off her wrapper before he eventually had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, said the victim and her relations later reported the matter to the police and anti-crime team attached to Odogbolu Division.

He said, “Medical reports so far received on the matter confirmed that the pastor actually committed the offence and he has since confessed to the crime. The matter will soon be charged to court.

“The matter is presently at the anti- Human Trafficking and Child Labour unit of the Department of Criminal Investigation, Abeokuta.”

In another development, the mobile anti-crime patrol team deployed along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway arrested two suspected armed robbers on Monday.

The bandits were said to have blocked the road in an attempt to rob motorists and commuters at Danco filling station, located after the Redemption camp.

The suspects arrested are Usman Sunday and Richard Olabode, both residents of Sagamu.

Items recovered from them include one locally made pistol, many live and expended cartridges, sharp knife, cutlasses, hand gloves and assorted charms.

Adejobi said the suspects had been handed over to the Divisional Police Officer, Sagamu, Adebowale Lawal, a chief superintendent of police, for preliminary investigation before the matter will be transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation Eleweran, Abeokuta as directed by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye for further investigation
